As a marketing education teacher, you will:
- teach marketing courses in topics such as marketing, sports and entertainment, fashion, travel and tourism
- maintain a cooperative education program
- advise students in DECA, An Association of Marketing Students
Although your local school structure will, to a degree, dictate the actual design of this role, you may also be expected to provide career guidance and to maintain an active public relations program. Your courses will cover business and marketing topics as well as teaching methods and classroom instruction, and you'll complete the program with a student teaching experience.
This program is approved by the Virginia Department of Education and meets licensure requirements to teach marketing education in Virginia, which currently has reciprocity with 49 states. It also conforms to the standards of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
** Pending approval from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, this degree will transition to a Bachelor of Science in Career & Technical Education in Fall 2019. The B.S. degree will require 120 credits total (a minimum of 30 credit hours must be earned from ODU).
