Why ODU for marketing education?

This licensure-only program will prepare you for Virginia teacher licensure to teach marketing in high schools. This program is ideal for students who already have a bachelor's degree and want to take the quickest route to earning a teaching license without completing a master’s degree.

Most high school marketing education teachers work on an 11-month contract. When you complete this program, you will be qualified to:

  • Teach marketing and management, sports and entertainment, fashion marketing, travel and tourism, internet marketing, and more
  • Work directly with community employers to manage cooperative education programs
  • Teach in a hands-on environment
  • Advise students and travel the country with DECA, an Association of Marketing Students

You must complete this program in its entirety in order to be recommended by Old Dominion University for a Virginia teaching license and marketing education endorsement.

  • There may be both undergraduate and graduate level courses in this endorsement program.

Coursework includes professional education in marketing, a practicum, and a Teacher Candidate Internship. A clearance background check is required before field experience placement.

This program's curriculum is individualized for each student's background and education. For example, if you already have a business degree, you may be exempt from some content area courses.

Access course materials online from any location. Some classes will have regular online meeting times, while others will not. The instructor may schedule assignments and exams at specific times. This program also requires a practicum and internship. All courses follow ODU's regular academic calendar.

You will apply to ODU as a non-degree seeking graduate student and submit a separate application to this endorsement program.
