Mandatory Fees for Online Students

Mandatory FeeDescription
Auxiliary Tuition: $162 per credit hourApplies to students who pay the standard tuition rate. Not charged to students who pay the ODUGlobal Tuition Rate or Active-Duty Military Tuition Rate.
Course Technology Fee:
$30 per credit hour
Applies to all students taking technology delivered (online) courses to cover the costs of providing these courses.
Innovation Fee:
$8 per credit hour
Supports strategic investments in campus technology, including enhancements to digital tools, classroom technologies, and student support systems.
General Services Fee:
$9 per 8-week term
General services for items such as graduation, course drops, reinstatement, matriculation and course catalog.
ID Card Fee:
$2 per 8-week term
Covers the Card Center services, equipment, and operating costs. Online students may request and receive a student ID card.
Course-Specific Fees: VariesThe Big Blue Bundle Textbook Program allows for course material cost to be assessed on the student account for specific courses. Additional information can be found at Big Blue Bundle Textbook Program.

* Online students who move to Virginia are not guaranteed in-state rates. Normal domicile rules apply, and these are handled by the Office of the Registrar. The 2026-2027 standard tuition rate for undergraduate students in Virginia without Virginia domicile is $972 per credit hour (not including the mandatory fees).

** Active Duty Tuition Rate: We must be able to verify your active-duty status in the Army, Coast Guard, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Navy using the Servicemember's Civil Relief Act (SCRA) website. Other Service Components, including Reserve and National Guard, are not eligible for this reduced tuition rate.

The tuition payment deadline occurs near the beginning of each semester when you are enrolled in a course. The exact dates vary by semester. Please check the Tuition & Financial Aid website for the current deadlines.

No. Students remain registered for classes even when tuition is not paid by the deadline. To avoid any potential negative actions, please pay tuition on time.

If you decide to drop a course, you must formally notify the University through an official drop/withdrawal method. Courses can be dropped through the LEO Online portal. To receive a full or partial refund for a dropped course, make sure to complete the drop process by the deadlines posted for each semester.

If you do not pay tuition on time, your account will be subject to late penaltiesfinancial holds, and collection fees.

You will remain registered even if you do not pay your tuition. Nonpayment of tuition and non-attendance does not release you from responsibility to pay for registered courses.

Payment plans are available for Fall and Spring semesters. Payment plans apply to one semester at a time and must be established for each term you are enrolled.
