Why ODU for your Secondary Education Degree Online?

If you want to become a teacher and already have a bachelor's degree, this secondary education online master's is for you. Prepare for licensure to teach grades 6-12.

You will select a subject area in English, social studies, or math and science. You should already understand the the content, skills, and practices of the subject area you want to teach. This knowledge can be met through a related bachelor's degree and experience.

Your master's coursework will explore instructional strategies for your content area. You will also learn practical skills and examine contemporary research on teaching pre-adolescent and adolescent learners. Field work will help you apply your knowledge, including a student teaching experience.

This program is designed to lead to Virginia teacher licensure. If you want to become a licensed teacher in a different state, we encourage you to check your state's teacher licensure requirements before applying.

When you graduate, you will earn a Master of Arts in Teaching in secondary education.
