Why ODU for Marketing Education?
Our marketing education program will train you to be a marketing teacher and DECA advisor. You'll learn through classroom instruction and field experiences.
Your courses will cover business and marketing topics as well as teaching methods and classroom instruction. You'll complete the program with a student teaching experience.
As a marketing education teacher, you will be qualified to:
- teach marketing and management, sports and entertainment, fashion marketing, travel and tourism, internet marketing, and more
- maintain a cooperative education program
- advise students in DECA
When you graduate, you will earn a Bachelor of Science degree in career and technical education with a major in marketing education. You also will be eligible for Virginia teacher licensure with an endorsement in marketing education. Other endorsements may also be possible.

Required Courses
To earn a bachelor's degree from ODU, you must complete at least 30 credit hours with us. This bachelor’s program requires 120 total credit hours.
This program includes a student teaching practicum, which requires a clearance background check. You'll also complete several field experiences in both teaching and marketing.

Online Learning Environment
Access course materials online from any location. Some classes will have live, regular online meeting times, while others will not. Instructors may schedule assignments and exams at specific times. This program requires a practicum or internship. All courses follow ODU's regular academic calendar.

Careers
Careers in Marketing Education
Most of our graduates go on to teach marketing and coordinate marketing curriculum in high schools. This degree will also prepare you to work in marketing for business and industry.
Your local school structure will determine your exact role as a marketing education teacher. Most marketing teachers work on an 11-month contract and provide career guidance, maintain a public relations program, and travel to DECA conferences.
This program is designed for students to earn a Virginia Collegiate Professional teaching license with marketing education endorsement. It has reciprocity in 49 states, but professional education requirements may vary by state.

How to Apply
Finish your degree with us. We offer the upper division (300 and 400 level) courses you'll need. Our enrollment team will review your credits from other higher education institutions. Then you can apply them toward a degree from ODU.
Additional assessments for licensure are required once admitted to the University.
