Why ODU for Medical Laboratory Science?
Medical technologists perform a variety of tasks essential to the medical field. These range from simple pre-marital blood tests to more complex tests conducted in a medical laboratory that uncover diseases such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes, and cancer.
This program is for certified Medical Laboratory Technicians who completed an accredited associate degree or a hospital-based or military MLT program. Benefits of our bachelor's program include:
- Formal clinical rotations are not required for certified medical laboratory technicians.
- Our graduates have a high pass rate for the national certification exam.
- Military experience may count toward credits.
- Tests are scheduled within a date range rather than a specific date and time. This is crucial for students who must accommodate shift work at a hospital.
Upon graduation with a B.S. in Medical Laboratory Science, you are eligible for examination and certification through the Board of Certification of the American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
Our degree program is fully accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).
