Nursing RN to BSN Online

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Ellmer School of Nursing

Program Overview

At Old Dominion University, we understand that your career in nursing demands a strong foundation and swift, efficient progression. That's why our accredited RN to BSN online program is designed to be as dynamic and forward moving as your career aspirations.

  • For licensed RNs with some college credits
  • Concurrent enrollment available for those enrolled in AAS/ADN courses
  • Complete at least 30 credits online from ODU

At ODUGlobal, we merge innovative educational practices with your personal and professional life, ensuring you have the freedom to pursue your nursing career on your terms.

Fully Accredited: Our program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and taught by experienced, full-time Old Dominion University nursing faculty, ensuring you receive a quality education that's recognized and respected. Most of our faculty also work as nurses in local hospitals.

Student-Centered Learning: Even in an online, asynchronous format, our commitment to your education feels personal. Connect with faculty and Student Success Directors via Zoom, phone, or text for support when you need it, or on campus if you’re near Hampton Roads.

Advance Faster: Registered Nurses receive 33 of the 66 nursing credits as experiential learning credits. These are awarded from the RN licensure at no cost to the student. We also offer a FREE transfer credit evaluation of college credits, including CLEP.  Learn more about the post-licensure RN to BSN program. Plus, our courses are graded traditionally (letter grades, not pass/fail), preparing you for graduate education, including a master’s degree in nursing or a nurse educator graduate certificate.

With many courses recently revised to be more relevant and condensed into 8-week terms, you can complete your degree in just 4-7 semesters—or even as quickly as a year and a half. While a two-year, part-time completion of nursing courses is typical, you may proceed at a slower pace if you’re balancing the demands of work and family.

  • We partner with community colleges to offer the Concurrent Enrollment program which blends ODU RN-BSN course work with the associate degree curriculum.

  • To earn a bachelor's degree from ODU, you must complete at least 30 credit hours with us. This bachelor's program requires 66 total credit hours; 36 credits are awarded at no cost once obtaining licensure as a Registered Nurse by passing NCLEX.

Talk with our enrollment team to determine how your credits will transfer. The catalog can serve as a guide for planning your course of study.

  • Access course materials online from any location. Many classes don't have a scheduled meeting time, so you can fit class into your personal schedule. The instructor may schedule assignments and exams at specific times. All courses follow ODU's regular academic calendar.

  • This program is not intended to lead to a specific state-level license.

If you plan to pursue a professional license or credential, we encourage you to explore requirements through the appropriate credentialing agency or professional organization in your state.
