Returning Online Students

Your degree is still within reach

How to return to ODU

1. Complete the Returning Student Application

Start by creating an account in the Future Monarch Portal or logging into your account. Choose “Start a New Application” and you’ll be asked if you have attended ODU before. Choose “Yes” and complete the Returning Student Application. Once your application is processed, you can move forward with reactivating your student record and preparing to register.

2. Send any required transcripts

You may need to submit updated official transcripts if you attended another college or university after leaving Old Dominion University, had in-progress grades on a previous transcript or have been away for more than five years.

Students may also email globaladmissions@odu.edu if they’re unsure if an updated transcript is necessary.

3. Reactivate your student accounts

After your record is active again, reactivate your MIDAS account and ODU student email. You will use these accounts to access registration, Canvas, student services and official University messages.

4. Connect with advising

Your Student Success Advisor can help you review your remaining requirements and understand how 8-week courses fit into your plan, as well as choose a schedule that supports your goals. You should hear from your Advisor via email.

5. Register for online courses

Once you are active and have talked with advising, you can register for online courses through LEO Online.

A more flexible way to finish

ODUGlobal’s 8-week asynchronous courses are designed for students balancing school with work, family, military service and other responsibilities.

With this format, you can:

  • Complete coursework online without required live class meetings.
  • Focus on fewer courses at one time.
  • Choose from multiple 8-week terms each year.
  • Work with an advisor to plan a realistic path to graduation.
