Beginning in the Fall 2026 term, the Post-baccalaureate Endorsement program in Secondary Education will no longer admit new students. If you planned to pursue this pathways, we encourage you to explore our Secondary Education Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), which prepare you for teacher licensure and also award a graduate degree in education. The MAT requires just 37 credits and is designed to build both your content knowledge and teaching skills as you work toward becoming a licensed teacher.
If you have a a non-teaching bachelor's degree and want to gain a Virginia initial teaching license for grades 6-12 without getting a master's degree, this endorsement is for you.
This program prepares you for licensure in one of these content areas, which will be listed on the license: English, mathematics, earth science, chemistry, biology, physics, or history/social studies.
Courses taken in this endorsement may be applied towards a master's degree in education from ODU.
