Why ODU for Special Education?

This course of study is for students who want to pursue an endorsement in special education without a master’s degree, or for those who hold a provisional license in special education and seek to complete licensure requirements.

This licensure option meets Virginia Department of Education certification and endorsement requirements for any one or more of the following areas:

  • early childhood special education
  • special education: general curriculum (mild disabilities)
  • special education: adapted curriculum (severe disabilities)
  • visual impairment

This program is designed for Virginia teacher licensure and endorsement. You should have an undergraduate degree in the arts and sciences, or equivalent. For this endorsement, you will apply to ODU as a non-degree seeking graduate student. Regular and provisional admittance requirements, including Praxis, are detailed on the department's web page.
