Required Courses

  • 19-31 credit hours

If you are a graduate of the Navy Nuclear Power School Officer Program with qualification at a prototype (NPS-O/Prototype), or of Bettis Reactor Engineering School (BRES), you are eligible to receive 12 credit hours of advanced standing based on your experience, leaving only 19 credit hours to be completed from ODU.

If you do not receive the 12 credit hours of advanced standing, you still can earn those credits by taking additional courses from ODU via portable media.

Your program will culminate in a one-credit capstone course.

Due to the portable media format of this program, course registration and the ordering of course materials differ from standard ODU graduate programs.

Learning Environment

You will work independently to complete coursework provided on CD-ROM or similar media. To design these courses, we draw on 30 years of experience in meeting the needs of military distance learners.

Navy College "Program for Afloat College Education" (NCPACE) procedures govern course costs and operation for Navy students assigned to a sea duty command.

  • Tuition is the individual's responsibility and is due upon registration.
  • Eligible NCPACE and Ashore students ashore may use Tuition Assistance or in-service Veterans benefits to defray tuition costs if desired.
  • For both MEM Ashore and NCPACE students, Tuition Assistance is capped at $250 per credit hour.

How to Apply

If you are not a graduate of NPS-O/Prototype or BRES, you still may be considered to take MEM courses by portable media. You will need pre-approval from the Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Department. 

If you are a graduate of NPS-O/Prototype or BRES or have pre-approval from the EMSE department, you can take up to two courses as a non-degree student while your application is being processed. Military service members are encouraged to review Military Student Admissions for more application details and admissions requirements.
