Why ODU for Computer Engineering?

In this program, you will gain a broad background in engineering and technical computer principles.

You will take core courses in electrical engineering and computer science. This will prepare you to work on computer hardware as well as software. You will be able to focus your studies with courses in:

  • data analytics engineering
  • computer hardware systems
  • computer networks
  • software development
  • cyber security
  • medical imaging
  • communications systems

In your last two semesters, you will learn how to use your new knowledge and skills in team situations. You'll work with students from other disciplines to design, propose, and complete projects. Some of our student teams enter their projects into regional and national competitions.

When you graduate, you will earn a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering.

Computer Engineering Majors

There are two majors available in the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering program: Computer Engineering and Modeling & Simulation Engineering. Both majors include technical electives so you can focus on areas of interest.

The Computer Engineering major has a built-in minor in computer science.

The Modeling & Simulation Engineering major prepares you to examine complex problems with visualization techniques. You'll select three technical elective courses.

No matter which major you choose, you'll have a well-rounded program of study.

Get Guaranteed Admission at Old Dominion University

We've partnered with the Virginia Community College System and select educational institutions to make transferring easy. The Guaranteed Admission Agreement is intended to ease the transfer process between these select colleges and Old Dominion University.

Required Courses

To earn a bachelor's degree from ODU, you must complete at least 30 credit hours with us. This Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering requires 128 total credit hours and includes a minor in computer science.

This computer engineering program has additional lower division courses in math, science, or computer engineering, which some associate degrees may not cover. Talk with our enrollment team to determine how your credits may transfer. We provide a free unofficial transfer evaluation before you apply.

Online Learning Environment

Participate in live, regularly scheduled online class meetings and access course materials online from any location. All courses follow ODU's regular academic calendar.

Calculating Cost

  • In-state Virginia Residents$374 per credit hour*
  • Out-of-State Students$407 per credit hour

Active duty military students may qualify for a discounted undergraduate tuition rate.

These tuition rates are effective Summer 2022 and subject to change.
