Why ODU for Communications Systems Technology?

Advance your knowledge in a growing field. ODU's online program in Communications Systems Technology will get you ready to work with modern communications systems.

You'll learn how to design, develop, and support the electronics and computer networks that connect us locally and globally. Along with technical skills, you'll learn the social and global impacts in the field. Your coursework will provide a strong foundation in:

  • communications systems
  • wireless systems
  • computer networks
  • advanced circuits
  • system testing, design, and development
  • component design

You'll also be able to choose two elective courses to expand your experience. When you graduate, you will earn a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology with a major in Electrical Engineering Technology and a concentration in Communication Systems Technology.

By successfully completing this program, you'll be eligible to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in Virginia and many other states. This exam is the first step to licensure as a professional engineer.

Get Guaranteed Admission at Old Dominion University

We've partnered with the Virginia Community College System and select educational institutions to make transferring easy. The Guaranteed Admission Agreement is intended to ease the transfer process between the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) and Old Dominion University (ODU).

Required Courses

To earn a bachelor's degree from ODU, you must complete at least 30 credit hours with us. This Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology requires 127 total credit hours minimum and includes a minor in engineering or science.

Online Learning Environment

Participate in live, regularly scheduled online class meetings and access course materials online from any location. All courses follow ODU's regular academic calendar.

Active duty military students may qualify for a discounted undergraduate tuition rate.

These tuition rates are effective Summer 2022 and subject to change.

State Licensure

This program is designed to prepare you for the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, the first step to licensure as a professional engineer in several states. In general, licensure is not required to work in this field, but some employers may require it.
