Students enrolled in the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) program through Old Dominion University Continuing Education are earning top marks and national recognition after achieving exceptional pass rates on their National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certification exams.

Since the program's inception, an impressive 94% of Continuing Education healthcare students have passed their certification exam(s) on the first attempt, demonstrating the program’s commitment to academic excellence and workforce readiness.

Among the standout achievements:

  • CMA (Clinical Medical Assistant): 98.6% first-attempt pass rate
  • EKG (Electrocardiography Technician): 97.1% first-attempt pass rate
  • PHLEB (Phlebotomy Technician): 98.6% first-attempt pass rate

The nearly perfect pass rate for these students underscores the strength of ODU’s comprehensive curriculum, experienced instructors, and hands-on training approach. These results significantly exceed many national averages and reflect both the dedication of the students and the quality of instruction provided.

“Our students’ success on the NHA exams is a testament to their hard work and the supportive learning environment we cultivate,” said Dr. Renee Felts, AVP of ODU Continuing Education. “We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and the meaningful impact they will have in healthcare settings across our region and beyond.”

Certification through NHA validates graduates’ skills and knowledge, positioning them competitively in today’s growing healthcare industry. With healthcare employers increasingly seeking nationally certified professionals, ODU’s CMA graduates are entering the workforce with confidence and credibility.

As the demand for qualified allied health professionals continues to rise, ODU Continuing Education remains committed to delivering high-quality, career-focused training programs that empower students to excel—not only in the classroom, but in their certification exams and professional careers.
