Special Education Minor Online

  • Minor
  • Darden College of Education & Professional Studies
  • Department of Communication Disorders & Special Education

This minor best complements majors in education, psychology, and speech pathology. It is helpful if you wish to become an elementary or primary school special education teacher.

Those who want to specialize in moderate to severe disabilities will also find this minor relevant.

    • 15 credit hours

This minor consists of five courses, including a 45-hour practicum and passing scores on Praxis I or equivalent as prescribed by the Virginia Board of Education.

A minor can only be earned as part of an undergraduate program. Talk with an ODUGlobal enrollment coordinator to determine if you have credits that will transfer.

  • Participate in live, regularly scheduled online class meetings and access course materials online from any location. All courses follow ODU's regular academic calendar.

  • To declare special education as your intended minor, you must complete the declaration process with the program director. Application for graduation requires completion of the Undergraduate Departmental Certification/Minor form with the Graduate Program Director.

For more information on becoming a teacher, please contact us or visit ODU's Office of Clinical Experiences online.
