With a public service minor, you will gain a solid theoretical foundation in the study and practice of public service, preparing you for citizenship, leadership, and careers in governmental and non-profit agencies and encouraging a spirit of volunteerism.

As a public service professional, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • deliver and manage public programs,
  • address critical issues in society,
  • improve quality of life,
  • build and bridge communities,
  • strengthen democratic governance,
  • lead change in public policy, and
  • embrace civic responsibility.

    • 12 credit hours

    You must complete two core courses, one PAS elective and one additional elective for a total of 12 credit hours. 

    A minor can only be earned as part of an undergraduate program.

  • Access course materials online from any location. Many classes don't have a scheduled meeting time, so you can fit class into your personal schedule. The instructor may schedule assignments and exams at specific times. All courses follow ODU's regular academic calendar.

  • This minor may be beneficial for anyone working in the public sector, including city managers, policy analysts, nurses, firefighters, teachers, and employees in nonprofit organizations.

    Active duty military students may qualify for a discounted undergraduate tuition rate.
