Irsan Tjioe

Old Dominion University has announced that Irsan Tjioe of British Columbia, Canada, is the latest winner of ODUOnline's international student scholarship.

Tjioe has had a lifelong passion for engineering. He has dreamed of designing landscape-changing infrastructure since he was 6. He's attending ODUOnline while working as a designer at a mechanical engineering consulting firm. It is a great position, he said, but he knew he needed additional education to achieve his professional engineering goals.

Quitting work and attending class full time was not a financial option. "Just when I was about to give up my dream, I found ODU’s Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) online program," Tjioe said. "The program allows a transfer student such as myself to enroll in the MET program that has a specialization area in mechanical system design."

After graduating from ODU, Tjioe plans to pursue his professional certification. "I am confident my education at ODU will help me in my future career," Tjioe said. "Not only will I be able to obtain a degree, but also academically it helps to grow my technical and fundamentals in engineering."

“Old Dominion has a legacy of educating successful engineers," said Mitsue Shiokawa, director of ODUOnline International. "We’re proud to be offering this option online for our international students. We wish Irsan the best of luck as he pursues his degree and engineering licensure.”
