XR Experience Space
Currently in development.
Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR) are collectively referred to as Extended Reality (XR). The rapid evolution of these technologies presents an unprecedented opportunity for Old Dominion University to lead in the exploration and application of these tools in higher education.
We are establishing a dedicated XR space that will serve as a hub to monitor, understand, and leverage these emerging technologies to redefine the educational landscape. This lab will serve as a critical resource for faculty, students, and researchers, ensuring ODU remains at the forefront of digital learning and teaching methodologies.
Space Uses
The XR Experience Space will be used for a wide variety of purposes including but not limited to:
- Faculty XR Exploration Sessions where faculty can be introduced to the possibilities of XR in their online courses.
- XR Content Evaluation where students, faculty and staff can try out new XR experiences and provide feedback to developers, course production teams, and others.
- XR User Experience Studies to investigate and improve XR interfaces, usability, and workflows.
- Equipment and Application Evaluation to determine the best XR equipment for online students and faculty, considering both usability and maintenance needs.
- XR Research Projects for faculty and ODUGlobal teams.
- Support for other XR resources such as the design and development of immersive teaching spaces and studio spaces.
- XR Meeting Space for ODUGlobal staff for immersive online meetings and team building activities.
