About this Concentration

According to the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE), applied epidemiology is using research to:

  1. Define and track disease for informed decisions
  2. Develop effective interventions
  3. Evaluate public health services and health care
  4. Communicate data to health professionals, stakeholders, and the public
  5. Emphasize epidemiological methods for creating health policy

ODU's MPH concentration in Applied Epidemiology and Public Health Data Analytics is designed to prepare you with strong epidemiological and analytical skills to solve pressing public health issues. You will learn to approach problems through a multidisciplinary and evidence-based lens.

You will graduate with strong foundations in applied epidemiological and statistical methods as well as data management, data visualization, and data analysis using modern statistical software.

The Master of Public Health (MPH) program is accredited through December 31, 2025 by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). The program received its initial CEPH accreditation in June 2000 and was last re-accredited in June 2020 in a report demonstrating full compliance across all CEPH criteria. Currently the program is an approved applicant as a multi-partner school of public health. For more information, see CEPH Applicants. For more information about CEPH, please visit their website.

For questions about CEPH accreditation and to obtain copies of the final CEPH self-study and accreditation report, please contact Ms. Stephanie Ewers, Director of Accreditation at sewers@odu.edu.
