Electrical engineering technology is all around us, from mobile devices and computers to manufacturing systems and power grids. In ODU's online bachelor's program, you'll gain a solid foundation the knowledge and skills required to design, test, and maintain real world systems.
When you graduate, you will earn Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (BSET) with a major in Electrical Engineering Technology. You'll be eligible to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in Virginia and many other states. This exam is the first step to licensure as a professional engineer.
ODU's electrical engineering technology program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC) of ABET, www.abet.org, under the General Criteria and the Electrical/Electronic(s) Engineering Technology Program Criteria.

Computer Engineering Technology
Prepare for a career as a network manager, computer system engineer, or network designer. You'll gain the skills to design, build, and install computer systems of all descriptions including hardware, software, and networking/web operations.
Embedded Systems Technology
Hardware and software converge in a wide range of applications. Gain expertise in the development and production of microprocessors and microcontrollers to prepare for engineering roles that build and operate these systems.
Mechatronics Engineering Technology
Prepare to work with engineering technology systems such as PLCs, microcontrollers/microprocessors, and both power and communications systems. Mechatronics-related jobs can be found in manufacturing and the design, development, operation and maintenance of electronic and electrical products.
Power Systems Technology
Prepare for a career working with power systems and machinery (including laboratory), alternative energies, smart grids, and other power transmission related jobs.

Required Courses
To earn a bachelor's degree from ODU, you must complete at least 30 credit hours with us. Our Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology requires a total of 128-134 credit hours, depending on your course of study. This program includes a minor in engineering or science.

State Licensure
This program is designed to prepare you for the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, the first step to licensure as a professional engineer in several states. In general, licensure is not required to work in this field, but some employers may require it.
