Why ODU for diversity studies?

In the global workplace, you will have colleagues who differ from you in race, religion, culture, ethnicity, gender, or other characteristics. This program will help you gain a global perspective on diversity so you can thrive in a wide variety of settings.

Our diversity studies certificate is designed to explore:

  • Class and social structures
  • Cultural differences
  • Relationships between majority and minority groups
  • Ways to promote understanding and acceptance among people who differ

You will take one required course on social inequality, examining the differences in stratification by social class, gender, race, ethnicity, and more both in the U.S. and throughout the world. You'll then select two courses from two different areas to complete the certificate, choosing from topics in sociology, communication, geography, public administration, and more.
