On Monday, President Obama announced his TechHire initiative, a new campaign to work with communities to get more Americans rapidly trained for well-paying technology jobs. Part of this initiative includes a potent combination of new tools and training models to connect Americans to these jobs.

According to data from the White House, the United States has about 5 million open jobs today, more than at any point since 2001. Over half a million of those job openings are in information technology (IT) fields like software development, network administration, user-interface design and cyber security.

Old Dominion University is already empowering Americans to work in IT and other in-demand industries with online programs in computer science, information technology, cyber security, modeling and simulation, and engineering technology. Our online degree and certificate programs provide the flexibility for non-traditional students to gain the training necessary to fill these critical jobs while still working full-time and caring for their families.
