Mandatory Fees for Online Students

Mandatory FeeDescription
Course Technology Fee:
$30 per credit hour
Covers the costs of providing technology delivered (online) courses.
Comprehensive Auxiliary Fee (in-state only):
$154 per credit hour
Supports auxiliaries such as the student union, recreational sports, student facilities, student activities, and intercollegiate athletics. In the past, this fee was part of a combined tuition rate. While not a new fee, beginning in Fall 2025 this fee will be assessed separately on the student bill. Does not apply to students using the undergraduate Active Duty Military Tuition rate.
Commonwealth Capital Fee (out-of-state only):
$17.50 per credit hour
Required by the State Appropriation Act for all out-of-state students attending institutions of higher education in Virginia. Does not apply to students using the undergraduate Active Duty Military Tuition rate.
General Services Fee:
$18 per semester
General services for items such as graduation, course drops, reinstatement, matriculation and course catalog.
ID Card Fee:
$4 per semester
Covers the Card Center services, equipment, and operating costs. Online students may request and receive a student ID card.
Innovation Fee:
$5 per credit hour
Supports strategic investments in campus technology, including enhancements to digital tools, classroom technologies, and student support systems.
Course-Specific Fees: VariesThe cost of textbooks, course materials and/or lab fees varies by course.

* Online students who move to Virginia are not guaranteed in-state rates. Normal domicile rules apply, and these are handled by the Office of the Registrar. The 2025-2026 undergraduate tuition rate for Virginia residents without Virginia domicile is $953.50 per credit hour.

** Active Duty Tuition Rate: We must be able to verify your active-duty status in the Army, Coast Guard, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Navy using the Servicemember's Civil Relief Act (SCRA) website. Other Service Components, including Reserve and National Guard, are not eligible for this reduced tuition rate.

The tuition payment deadline occurs near the beginning of each semester when you are enrolled in a course. The exact dates vary by semester. Please check the Tuition & Financial Aid website for the current deadlines.

No. Students remain registered for classes even when tuition is not paid by the deadline. To avoid any potential negative actions, please pay tuition on time.

If you decide to drop a course, you must formally notify the University through an official drop/withdrawal method. Courses can be dropped through the LEO Online portal. To receive a full or partial refund for a dropped course, make sure to complete the drop process by the deadlines posted for each semester.

If you do not pay tuition on time, your account will be subject to late penaltiesfinancial holds, and collection fees.

You will remain registered even if you do not pay your tuition. Nonpayment of tuition and non-attendance does not release you from responsibility to pay for registered courses.

Payment plans are available for Fall and Spring semesters. Payment plans apply to one semester at a time and must be established for each term you are enrolled.
