Why ODU for a school library practice certificate?

This certificate is designed to for students who already hold an MLS, MLIS, or equivalent degree and are seeking employment as a school librarian.

The courses in this academic certificate meet the competencies required by the Virginia Department of Education for school librarians. Most states require licensure or certification for K-12 school librarians. Licensure requirements vary by state.

ODU has a nationally recognized CAEP/ALA/AASL school library program. We've been educating future school librarians for over 50 years. Our school library program has been available through distance learning for over 10 years. You'll learn with faculty who are school library leaders, dedicated to school library excellence.

ODU also has an official ALA Student Chapter, the first one formed in Virginia.
