SCHEV Provides Link Between Service Members and College Education in Virginia

RICHMOND — Virginia goes above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to providing educational benefits to active duty members, veterans, and the members of military families. For instance, federal law requires all service members be given in-state tuition in the states where they are assigned. However, Virginia goes even further than that, allowing military family members to be considered for state financial aid immediately upon moving to the Commonwealth.

To take full advantage of all the military benefits offered by Virginia, service members need to know about them. That is why the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) has put all that information in one place. This new link on the SCHEV website includes details regarding financial benefits for active duty military members,financial benefits for family members of active duty members, and education benefits for military veterans and their families. The website also provides links to the separation and reinstatement policies at all of Virginia’s public colleges and universities along with other helpful resources such as information about the GI Bill and the Virginia Department of Veterans Services.

With this new link, SCHEV is proud to do its part toward achieving Governor’s McDonnell’s goal of being "America’s Most Veteran-Friendly State."

SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on higher education issues.
