This post-professional certificate is designed for licensed, registered nurses with an APRN MSN. Our program includes courses and practicums required for eligibility to take the national certification exam as an advanced practice nurse in psychiatric mental health.
Full time students can complete this certificate program in as little as 12 months (three semesters).
Your online courses will include:
- Psychotherapy methods and methods of diagnosis and differential diagnosis across the lifespan: adult, child, adolescent, older adults, and special populations
- Factors associated with the development of mental health disorders
- Psychopharmacology, the study of medications used to treat mental disorders
- Culturally-centered, collaborative care in the prevention and management of mental health disorders
You will complete two semesters of practicums in psychiatric mental health environments with clinical mentors in your own community, where you can apply your knowledge of diagnosis and treatment strategies to individuals, families, and groups from diverse backgrounds.
There are a limited number of seats available in the PMHNP Post-Professional Certificate program each year.
The baccalaureate degree program in nursing, master's degree program in nursing, and Doctor of Nursing Practice program at Old Dominion University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
