NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University has announced that Harveen Kaur is the latest winner of ODUOnline's international student scholarship.
Kaur has an undergraduate degree in electronics and will join ODU as a graduate student studying computer information systems.
"My aim is to gain top-level analytical expertise in machine learning and data visualization," Kaur said. "I believe the opportunity to learn from experienced faculty at ODU will not only benefit me but also the community in which I will work after completing my degree."
"Ms. Kaur's ambition to become a data scientist is admirable," said Mitsue Shiokawa, director of ODUOnline International. "We look forward to seeing how she applies the lessons she learns in her graduate study with ODUOnline to technology in her own community in Delhi, India."
Kaur joins a legacy of international students thriving with Old Dominion, which has more than 5,000 online students and a growing network of over 140,000 alumni from 69 countries.
"Many international students gravitate toward Old Dominion University's online courses because they are the same that our campus students experience," Shiokawa said. "They are able to interface with their professors and fellow students in a productive way. When they graduate, they'll have earned the same degree and be just as prepared as their on-campus peers."
In offering his congratulations, Andy Casiello, associate vice president for distance learning, said: "Old Dominion University's master's degree in computer science is a popular option for online international students. The asynchronous format allows students all over the world to take the same cutting-edge courses as on-campus students without struggling with the time difference."
